Lee Miller

Photo Of Lee during WWII

Lee Miller was a photographer, Surrealist, War Correspondent, Model and Gourmet Cook. She died in 1977, her name known to only a few experts in the art world. She took some of the most famous images in the World War II Era. She modelled for Man Ray and Vogue. Still, her contributions to the art world remained hidden until her son found her archives in the attic. Lee Miller began her modelling career with her father posing in the nude; these photos became controversial for sexualizing her at such a young age.  She became a fashion model and Man Ray's muse,  later realizing she would rather take photos than be in them. In 1944, Lee became a correspondent accredited to the US Army and often teamed up with her friend, the LIFE Magazine photographer David E. Scherman. She followed the US troops overseas after D-Day, becoming one of only a few women combat photojournalists to cover the front-line war in Europe.
